Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  Do the actors play themselves in the performance?

A. No, each actor portrays another cast member’s story.  This casting policy allows us to uphold our core value of confidentiality, and at the same time fosters cross-cultural relationships, because actors must understand the lives of people quite different from themselves in order to tell their stories honestly and dramatically. In addition, actors have the opportunity to present different points of view and outcomes that the people they portray haven’t considered before.

Q. Where do your shows premiere?

A. Our core cast always premieres its original musical at a professional theatre in Washington DC.  We have performed at a variety of venues including The Atlas Performing Arts Center, Lincoln Theatre, Lisner Auditorium and Arena Stage.

Q. How can I purchase City at Peace DC merchandise or DVD’s of the shows?

A. Merchandise can be purchased at our performances. You may also make purchases throughout the year by contacting Assistant Artistic Director, Shae Washington shae@cityatpeacedc.org or 202-399-7993 ext. 156.

Q. Is your rehearsal space Metro accessible?

A. Absolutely!  Please click here for directions using public transportation and be sure to check out the free H Street Shuttle as well!

Q. Do cast members pay to be in your program?

A.  No, we do not charge our participants any money to be in the program.  Though it costs thousands of dollars per participant to operate the program, we have intentionally chosen to keep the program free for all participants so that we can reach as many young people as possible.  This means that donations are crucial to our survival.

Q. Will you come and perform or do a workshop at my school, youth serving organization or for my conference, etc?

A. Yes, we would love to!  Please contact Assistant Artistic Director Shae Washington, 202-399-7993 ext. 156. She will speak with you about your specific needs and what City at Peace can do to help you address them.

Q. When are your auditions?

A. Interested youth have several opportunities to audition between the months of May and September before our new cast begins its season in late September.

Q. When are rehearsals held?

A. Rehearsals for the program are held every Wednesday from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Q. I’m an Alumni of City at Peace DC; are there ways for me to connect with other Alums?

A. Indeed! No matter where you currently live you can become a part of CAP 2, which is a network for alumni looking to connect with other alums and receive support, continue the work of building a city at peace, fund raise for the organization or support the current cast.  Join our alumni google group to request membership.  Also, make sure that City at Peace DC has your current contact information so you can stay informed.
